As copper’s role in the global economy grows, comparisons to precious metals have followed — even though key differences remain.

Co-CIO David Aspell told Myra Picache at MarketWatch that while copper plays a critical strategic role, it lacks the scarcity and physical characteristics that define true precious metals.

David said reserves and scarcity are “massively different both outright and relative to production,” pointing to the sharp contrast between copper and metals like gold and silver.

His comments highlight how supply, scale, and real-world constraints continue to shape commodity markets.
